Water purification etc

Afternoon all, with lighter evenings on the way, looking forward to getting out and about : )

I had a quick question regarding water hygiene in the MP. How do people keep on top of this, do you use water purification tablets to keep the water in the tank in good shape? Or do you typically only fill for trips away and then drain when back home, perhaps avoid the need to purify the water?

How about if the water supply hasn't been used for sometime, do you use a cleaning agent first before filling with fresh water?

Would be great to see what people are doing.

Many thanks,
Graham

I don't drink from the tank so not too fussed but I always drain when I get home and fill fresh before I go away. I've never had problems with contamination or Algae so never needed purification tabs. Generally as a rule keep the water moving so if the vehicle is going to be stationary for a few weeks drain the tank.

Would also be keen to know what people use for filling the water tank. I have seen the Brandrup Water fill set but I am veering towards a designated food grade hose to attach to the outdoor tap - that feels like it’s going to be quicker and easier but would be great to have recommendations for specific kit or any feedback on the different methods that you have.

Hosepipe. As long as water has been allowed to run through it and not stagnate in it and it's food grade.

According to a close friend, who was a hygiene systems engineer for 20 odd years. Standing water can be a cause of legionnaires disease, a warm climate can prove the perfect breeding ground, I’m not sure how long this takes but the systems he installed (in prison cells) would run a automated flush cycle.

So I think I would certainly drain and vent, flush and refill.. I am also quite a fan of Milton tablets and wouldn’t hesitate to use them and ensure they are cycled through the pump tap and drain.

To be honest that is exactly the procedure I use for my hydration pack, and I drink that.
