Spare wheel anti theft devices

Hi all, we had our spare stolen and having replaced the mechanism I bought one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes...909213?hash=item4b771c959d:g:k5gAAOSwf1Regy8y

Self fit in about 10 minutes I’d have the right sockets and it’s brilliant! Has a steel plate that bolts to body and covers cable where it was cut. Can’t recommend enough.
Many thanks for your post. We've just had our wheel stolen. In terms of the replacement mechanism, can this be fitted yourself or does it require a complex job? Many thanks again.

I believe that the MP comes which a cable winch spare wheel mechanism which makes it easy for thieves to take the wheel and tyre. Is there an anti theft device available to buy for it?
Is a steel space saver(which all MP’s have)really likely to be stolen?Id have thought wheel thieves would be more attracted to expensive alloy wheels.
Incredible but true, I was fitting my toe bar and thought something wasn’t quite right, then I noticed my spare had been stolen, they simple cut the winch cable!!!!!!! I guess some people are pretty desperate.

A question for anyone who has fitted an anti-theft device for the spare wheel. Protectavan has given me a link to their web page for my 2017 MP (https://www.protectavan.co.uk/spare-wheel-guard?make=160970&model=161003&year=161041). The advert says "the tyre can only be released from inside the vehicle load area", which suggests drilling into the boot space. Is this correct/necessary?
If I have a 2019 MP model, which type of this device should I choose? For the Vito Gen3?

I ordered the replacement parts for my 67 place MP direct from Mercedes (approx £231 plus the cost of the spare tyre. Very easy to fit and installed a Spare Wheel Guard at the same time. (from Protectavan. SKU: TVL016-MEVIT3-SWG. For Mercedes Vito (2004 Onward). Might be worth buying some replacement bolts at the same time (x5) mine were a little corroded. You will need an E11 Torx Star socket to remove the bolts (I bought mine from Screwfix because I wanted it done that day, but you can order them cheaper on amazon or Ebay. You will also need a standard socket (I think it was 12mm). Hope the Guard work!!!! Or the B*****ds get caught/cut their fingers off trying to rob other people.
The guys at Protectavan are accommodating and should direct you exactly which wheel guard to buy. Hope this helps.

In all Marco Polos I've seen, the spare wheel is plain black steel, not a fancy alloy wheel (in fact, many alloy wheels do not fit in the spare wheel well - if you get a flat tyre and use the spare, you may need to carry the punctured tyre inside!). I am amazed anyone may want to steal it.
