In many countries the brake pad sensor is called a “squealer” and is local to the pad that wears the most during braking. It’s essential to fit to the correct side and keep an eye on pad thickness. Often the squeal is the sensor rubbing the disc.
These MPs are a lovely thing to drive and use but if pushed for me the issues in a relatively short ownership of the MP are:
1 Paranoia about Electric Roof operation, which is very battery condition sensitive. The ‘open window’ request is also annoying, sometimes required even if the door is open) -
2 Leisure battery per se. I don’t really think the split charge systems is the best. The leisure battery never charges to max via the alternator needs a day on EHU. Looking at upgrade to lithium and B2B unit and maybe solar.
3 Annoying warning signs on dash, this is just a modern Mercedes fact of life.. Oil level sensitivity with too high warning. Take a coffee break, ABS warning after driving over potholes (sensors checked and OK suggest change or carry spares as will put engine in limited LIMP mode, I’m going to get a Merc code reader.
3 Rear seat operation. Make sure you know where the rear seat position “Reset” button is. Location varies with age.
4 Fridge temperature sensor is a failure point. When failed, the thermostat goes open circuit and runs flat-out as a freezer and flattens the battery. There is a warning on the control unit to say it’s failed. The fridge is a Dometic unit made for Westfalia and whilst DIY replacement is doable not easy and £75 for sensor. We also added a small Blue Tooth £10 temperature transmitter for peace of mind so we know what settings refer to in terms of true temperature on our phones.
