Fridge sensor replacement

Hi all,

Fridge sensors are a common issue. Here is a link on how to change it yourself and save on extortionate labour costs!! It’s in German but useful.
( I hope it works! I’ll find out when my sensor arrives )

Finally got around to replacing the sensor.!! If you are replacing yours then make sure you feed the cable from inside the fridge and feed behind the frame before connecting!!!
It’s a fiddly job that would have been a lot easier if they had used longer wires on the connectors!!
3 hours after fixing it appears the fridge is working correctly

Replacing mine but new sensor is grey black wires existing sensor cable is blue and brown, not understanding German does it matter which way round it is connected? If it does do you know what colours pair together please?

Sorry but I can’t remember and not in a position to check at the moment. I googled to find out l. Hope you get it sorted.

For those with older models i.e. blue and brown wires, and don't understand German, the connection of the new sensor black wire is to the old sensor brown wire. By default then the new sensor grey/white wire connects to the old sensor blue wire.

I assume by terminal you mean the plug from the back of the fridge? The 2 wires have a barb on them that stops them being pulled out. Push them through a bit then cut. Before you attach the new sensor wires, ensure you have fed through from the fridge and behind the framework for the cabinet as once pushed into the plug you won’t get them out. (Voice of experience D’oh!!)

Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, I meant the 2 wires with the barb on them. I can't get them out of the terminal. I was thinking of cutting the 2 wires and then cut the end of the new sensor so I can crimp the wires together?

Btw, good tip about feeding the wire through first. Could have been my mistake too.

Actually thinking back I pulled them out with plyers.
Did you not damage the cable grip in the terminal? I'm worried that if I use some force and get them out with plyers, the new connectors on the new sensor might not grip? I'm tempted to use pliers though.

The barbs just bent back when pulled.

You can push a small tubed pin crimp over the existing barbed crimp. This disengages the barbs and you can release them. There are example videos on you tube. You can purchase a small tool to remove these different types of connector pins.

Thank you, Tony. I have the tool but it just didn't work. I used pliers and some force in the end and got them out. To be honest, I wouldn't do it again. I think if you can't get the cables out, just cut the wires about an inch or so above the terminal and crimp the new ones onto the old ones. Anyway, it's all good and the fridge is working again.

Good to know. Thank you. I think, I'll give it a go

I think I’ll do the crimping should I need to do it again to save trying to unplug faff. Glad you have managed to fix. Cold beer earned

Just had to do this, frozen beer is really the last straw and time to take action. This thread really helped, a few observations to hopefully make peoples lives even easier. The rear of the sensor as it passes through the fridge has a load of sticky putty in it, tease all this out with a blunt screwdriver first before you remove the cable and then reuse to seal the hole back up.
I unplugged the live (red) neutral (blue) and the black wire connected to D from the motor connectors this allows enough play to get hold of the plug, there is a clip that holds the cable in place under neath, popped this off with a screwdriver.
The pins are a bugger to get out of the plug, i splayed them open jamming a screw driver down the centre a few times, bend them over a few times back and forth, straighten them up and they then should pull out from the rear. Make sure you have clearly marked on the plug which wire is which prior to removing these or do them one at a time.
I didnt see any point routing everything round the back again, i'm an ex control and instrumentation tech so you learn to always make it easy for yourself and presume you'll be the one back in there again some time, just cable tied it up with plenty of tape to stop any rubbing between the motor base plate and the plastic front cover, fridge now set at 1, and controlling, everything once again well in MP world Thank you to The Don for the original post.

Maybe consider just ‘joining’ the wires rather than removing them from the plug. Small WAGA connector also makes it easier the next time if fails !!!!
