My MP is coming up for its first (2 yearly) service. As the MP has been available in the UK for over 2 years now, I was wondering if members could give me feedback on servicing costs. I’m expecting the worst because the odd time I’ve considered buying a Mercedes car I’ve been put off by the ridiculous, and to my mind unjustifiable service costs. When I owned a VW California for 4 years the service costs were quite reasonable, largely because they came under the auspices of the VW Van Centres. The service manager at my local Van Centre told me at the time that the servicing costs for Van based VW’s had to be reasonable because the tradesmen who bought them wouldn’t wear high service costs and would either buy something else or go to an independent for servicing. My previous ‘Van, a Westfalia Columbus based on a Fiat Ducato, cost £200 for a minor service and £400 for a major.
I‘ve noted in earlier posts, when people had to rely on speculation for likely service costs (largely because dealers are notoriously vague and misleading in their advice on costs and I’ve even been lied to about the servicing costs of a V70 before I agreed to buy it) and some have suggested going to a Mercedes van dealer for servicing. Has anyone done this, because I’ve seen it suggested that the Van Centres will refuse to service the MP because it’s a car - in fact they are designated an MPV on the V5.
