Alarming wheel jump/scrubbing when on full lock

We have a 2018 MP V class fitted with 25/R19 tyres. When turning at full lock (right or left) the van jumps. It feels like the tyre is being dragged. Both Mercedes dealer and the STS tyres say its normal for that van with those wheels but, I cant accept that as its feel, when your driving it .. terrifying and very far from normal, Anyone else had the same issue please ?

Hi - Yes, it does happen when manoeuvring and using close to or full lock. I have the same tyre size

Hi

Just for further confirmation, we get the same thing. Also, if you check on the site there is help on the tyre pressures as they (front tyres) will wear much quicker if not inflated beyond the suggested pressure. The dragging you describe is only when manoeuvring at lower speeds though or on loose surfaces, and quite often in the wet.

Yes we have MY18 on the 245/45 R19 Conti tyres. Does the same on low speed higher lock and more so when the weather is cold. A lot of posts a few years ago referring to scrubbing. T.

Hi Sargis,
I have 3 Mercs, MP, GLE and E class. All 3 of them do the same thing at low speed especially in reverse.

I was told its normal.

Hi Sargis, had exactly the on our 19 plate which we had from new ( so I know it was n't as a result of previous owner messing!) Merc said it was normal. Independant dealer wouldnt look at the geometry of suspension because merc hadnt released info.
I tried increasing, reducing pressures to all the recommended pressures on the forums. At one point whilst away in the van I noticed on full lock that the cord was showing on the inside shoulder of each front tyre despite there being plenty of tread on the outer. Replaced like for like with Continentals...problem persisted with scrubbing and judder on full lock.
Quite obviously for that degree of wear something was wrong. For my third set I swapped em all out for Pirelli, a softer compound and had the tracking checked by a specialist who exclaimed that both sides were out. Two year later, tyres wearing normally and no tyre scrubb.
As a cautionary note, steering doesnt center quite as quickly ( though it may have too quickly before!) But it does centre.
Personally, I think the original van designed with 17" wheels struggles to cope with the larger wheels they fit for asthetics and some real world adjustment is required......

I switched to GOODYEAR 245/45R18 100Y EAG F1 ASY 6 XL FP (Costco) , and the problem has improved to the point I don't really notice it anymore.

As per the tyre wear threads, I put the pressures up and use Avon's and I am now getting fairly even wear (not perfect). I got caught as Neil did on the original set and was just down to the canvas on the inside fronts, but still OK across the rest of the tyre, but they were near end of life. The tyre scrubbing is just occasionally at low speeds and full lock so not to worried about it.

I inflate my front tyres 2(245/46/19) to 290 to stop the uneven wear but you will always get that jumping feeling at low speed full lock.
Not a problem with 17” wheels…
